Laudatio for Filho by Tomas Ponsteen
We award a film that is deeply personal and at the same time socially relevant. "Filho" by Tomas Ponsteen explores the search for identity and tackles the emotions that lie behind the issues of adoption, child trafficking, and belonging.
From the very first shots, we are precisely and equally emotionally drawn into the story.
Effortlessly the film unveils the complex and seemingly contradictory positions of the protagonists, making it possible to experience the feelings of loss, longing, hurt and love on all sides.
Content, dramaturgy and form merge into a perfect alliance, creating a precise, clearly and decisively filmed and edited film. "Filho" surprises, develops its’ own formal language without conceptually elevating it above the content.

Tomas Ponsteen is geadopteerd uit Brazilië en heeft niet de behoefte om op zoek te gaan naar zijn biologische moeder. Sinds onthullingen over adoptiemisstanden vraagt hij zich af in hoeverre zijn keuze om niet te zoeken vrijblijvend is.
Deze film kwam tot stand in samenwerking met EOdocs.
