We invite you to join our public lecture Mother, I Am Suffocating. This Is My Last Film About You by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese on the 12th of April at 19:30. RSVP via this link.
Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese is a powerful new voice in cinema. His essay film Mother, I Am Suffocating. This Is My Last Film About You (2019) pulsates with evocative imagery and sounds that offer a world saturated with loss, longing and desire. Mosese mobilises the essay film form to stage a complex and fluid conversation with the figure of the 'mother'. It is in the interlocutory address to this figure that questions of home, nation and exile are put into crisis in ways that are aesthetically sophisticated and politically cogent. The resonating voice of the filmmaker oscillates from being a letter of lament into a love poem, a radical critique that becomes a delicate plea; deliberately resisting a singular register. Mother, I Am Suffocating. This Is My Last Film About You is a self-reflexive experimentation with the cinematic language that bravely collapses the boundaries between the personal and the political.
After the screening Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese will be in conversation with Nduka Mntambo, Head MA of Film programme.
