Immersive Media

From the first consumer VR headset in 2015, the field of Immersive media has seen major changes. Technical capabilities have also grown tremendously. The coming years will become formative for the future of this field. The Netherlands Film Academy offers the opportunity to specialize in Immersive media and become part of the creators of the future.

VR, AR and MR
With Immersive media you immerse the viewer or participant in another reality. Immersive media includes several media types, including VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality). In VR, you replace reality with virtual reality - you put on a pair of glasses and the real world disappears and you get a new one in its place. With Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR), you create a combination between the reality you already know and a virtual one: you place virtual objects in your real space.

Immersive media
Immersive media is a specialization of the Visual effects & Immersive media major.

As an immersive media maker, you often work in small teams. Therefore, you will learn a lot about both the content and the technical process of making. Where your focus will ultimately lie within the study is entirely up to you. For Immersive media, the professional perspective is still very much open. Currently there is a huge shortage of people with technical knowledge in the Netherlands alone. If on top of that you have creative knowledge and experience in various collaborations, there will be a range of creators and companies that want to work with you.
