The NFA Research Weekend took place on 13 and 14 September 2024. The first of its kind, the event provided a live platform for the students, teachers and staff that make up the Film Academy’s rich research community to come together and share where their curiosity has led them, both with each other and with their audience.
At the core of our vision is the idea that research is nothing more than allowing oneself to be curious, to have questions, to wonder what will happen when one experiments, and then shares what one has found out. We aim to cherish, instigate and facilitate that drive in our efforts to strengthen a research mentality in the Film Academy’s students, teachers and staff across both its Master and Bachelor programmes.
The Research Weekend showcased a huge variety of projects that attest to that mindset – explorations that are all driven, bottom up, by the questions that the researchers encountered in their practice as teachers and/or filmmakers, students and artists. From lectures, films and guided discussions to installations, the forms in which our researchers present their journeys are as varied and innovative as the content they explore.
Participating researchers include Menno Otten, Victorine van Alphen, Faye Bezemer, Sabine Groenewegen, Frans-Willem Janssen, Jan Verburg, Katarina Zdjelar, Faye de Wilde, Lonneke Worm/Esther Schmidt, Nduka Mntambo, Stanislaw Liguzinski, Melle Posthuma de Boer, Eliane Esther Bots, Diana Toucedo, Jamy Guda, Lionelisa Gerding, Maarten van Huissteden and Maarten de Schutter.
