A whole creative universe takes place outside the cinematographic field in a personal and intimate dimension. The film curator and editor Garbiñe Ortega has been gathering letters written by filmmakers from all times since 2015 and published part of her research in two volumes including original documents she found throughout the years. These compilations of unpublished letters aim to discover new relationships, unexpected connections between filmmakers from different “film families" to suggest a new way of understanding cinematographic genealogies and Film History.

This ongoing research and curatorial project will be presented by Garbiñe Ortega in two parts: in the first one we will get to know more in detail the creative and editorial process until materializing this research into the books. The second part will be a screening of a collection of film-letters commissioned by her to contemporary filmmakers such as Nicolás Pereda, Beatrice Gibson or Deborah Stratman that followed the same principle of writing a film letter to someone that is far from their own work.

Garbiñe Ortega is a film curator, editor and producer. Her practice focuses on curatorship, education, building audiences, and the creation of specific frameworks that amplify collective cinematographic experience. Her curatorial work has been programmed internationally at Film Society of Lincoln Center (New York), Tate Modern (London), Film Museum de Viena, National Gallery of Art (Washington) and Pacific Film Archive (California), among others. She was the co-director of programming at Ambulante, Mexico (2015) and the artistic director of the festival Punto de Vista (2018-2021). She edited the books “Correspondencias” (2018), “To light, to love, to time: Jonathan Schwartz” (2019), “Meditaciones sobre el presente: Ute Aurand, Helga Fanderl, Jeannette Muñoz, Renate Sami” (2020) and “Cartas como películas” (2021). She teaches at Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastian) and ESCAC (Barcelona).
