About Nelson Carlo De Los Santos
Nelson Carlo De Los Santos (1985 Santo Domingo) first attended UNIBE where he received a BFA in Creative Writing. In 2006,  he studied cinematography in Buenos Aires, then later in Edinburgh College of Art. His short film, SheSaid HeWalks was awarded a BAFTA New Talent for best experimental short film in 2009. He received his MFA in Film/Video at California Institute of the Arts. During this period, He made his first feature film an experimental documentary shot in NYC premiered at Tropical Uncanny at the Guggenheim, Museum, New York. His thesis, Santa Teresa & Other Stories inspired in Roberto Bolaño’s novel 2666, premiered at Fidmarseille 2015 in the official competition where he won the Prix Georges De Beauregard international, following best Latin American Film at Mar de Plata International Film Festival, best first film at Cinema Tropical Awards. COCOTE, his latest film, was awarded with the Fundación Carolina in Madrid, Ibermedia Development & Production Fund, the Dominican Film Commission Fund, the World Cinema Fund at Berlinale, Doha Post Production Fund, and Primera Mirada Panama Post Production Fund. Cocote premiered at Locarno Film Festival where won Best Film in the Signs of Life section, following 20 international prices such as Best Film in the 2 most important film festivals in Latin America, Cartagena and Mar de Plata. Cocote has showed around 64 film festivals around the world. Currently  he teaches in some film schools as a guest professor, and he has obtained the prestigious German residency DAAD (2019), where he will be working on his new film.
