Application
Applications for the Greenhouse for Teachers are currently closed. Stay tuned for the upcoming cycle!
How do I apply?
Are you a teacher at the Film Academy, a guest lecturer or a member of staff with a topic you’d like to explore? Anyone with a research idea is welcome to apply.
Applications for the Greenhouse take place through a questionnaire. Be prepared to answer questions about why you want to work on your project, your connection to what you’re proposing or its relationship to your previous work and the importance the research has for you and your field of expertise. The questionnaire is in English but feel free to answer in Dutch.
The Greenhouse has room for a maximum of 5 projects. You’re welcome to apply as a group (of two or more) with a collaborative project but please note reimbursement of costs can only take place per project.
How will your application be evaluated?
As the Greenhouse is intended for the development of research and knowledge from the practice of filmmaking, proposals are not evaluated based on the criteria of academic research. What we are looking at is the connection between your idea/research question and your artistic, professional or pedagogical experience – in addition to the research potential of your proposal. This does not mean that your idea should not deviate from your previous practice, but in this case it is crucial to elaborate on how your previous experience determines your new direction. We believe that research and work sessions benefit from a variety of perspectives and expertise – our final selection will ensure that the group is as diverse as possible.
Selection Committee
Applications will be reviewed by an internal committee (director, lecturer, research coordinator), supplemented by an external professional.
Timeline
Applications usually open in Autumn. We start with an Information Evening, the deadline and assessment follow a month later and the announcement of the group will be made the same week. You can find more information on the structure of the programme here.
Questions?
Feel free to email Mieke Bernink (Head of Research) at mieke.bernink@ahk.nl or stop by room 3.25, or Stanislaw Liguzinski (Research Coordinator) at stanislaw.liguzinski@ahk.nl.
Who can apply?
Any teacher or guest teacher at the Film Academy can apply to participate in the Greenhouse Incubator. If two (or more) lecturers want to submit a project jointly, that is of course possible - and interesting - but reimbursement of time and costs can only take place per project.
How will the application be evaluated?
Because the Greenhouse program is intended for research and knowledge development from the practice of filmmaking and/or teaching, proposals are not evaluated based on criteria that apply to academic research. Instead, in addition to the research potential of the proposal, the main focus is on the connection between your idea/research question and your professional/artistic/pedagogical experience. This does not mean that your idea should not deviate from your previous practice, but in this case it is crucial that you argue how your previous experience determines your new direction.
Because Film Academy research and work sessions benefit from a variety of perspectives and expertise from participants, final selection will be made to ensure that the group is as mixed as possible.
Who judges?
Applications will be reviewed by a committee from within (director, lecturer, research coordinator), supplemented by an external professional.
