Mieke Bernink has been Head of Research (Lector) at the Netherlands Film Academy since September 2008, when she was invited to set up a Master’s programme. She thus founded the international 2-year research Master ‘Artistic Research in and through Cinema’, which she led until September 2021. Alongside her continuing interest in the combination of artistic research and pedagogy – how to teach artistic research? – her focus as Head of Research is also on creating the possibilities for makers, teachers and students to understand, develop and share their practices as research.…

Stanislaw Liguzinski is a Research Coordinator at the Netherlands Film Academy, a co-director of the Essay Film Studio of Lodz Film School (PL), and the head VR programmer of Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam (NL). Being a graduate of academic programmes in media, film and critical theory but also the Master of Film programme at the Nederlandse Film Academy, he combines both practice and theory to develop credible forms of practice-based research in XR and film. He wrote for major Polish media outlets, edited journals, curated programs and XR experiences for international film festivals and cultural institutions including IFFR, Go Short, Kaboom or New Horizons (PL). He is conducting research and completing a PhD on videographic forms of thinking.

Mick Wilson is an artist, educator and researcher based in Gothenburg and Dublin. He is currently a Professor of Art and Director of Doctoral Studies at HDK-Valand (University of Gothenburg), appointed on both academic and artistic grounds (according to the Swedish University protocol). He's been trained as both an artist and historian of art and design, and held positions a director of Valand Academy (2012-2018), fellow at BAK Utrecht (2018/2019), editor-in-chief of PARSE Journal for Artistic Research (2015-2017), dean of the Graduate School of Creative Arts & Media, Ireland (2007-2012), and Head of Research at National College of Art & Design, Ireland (2005-2007).

Joost Rekveld is an artist who is motivated by the question of what we can learn from a dialogue with machines. His abstract films have been shown world-wide in a wide range of festivals and venues. He had retrospectives at the Barbican in London and the Ann Arbor film festival amongst others, and in 2017 he was filmmaker in focus at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Individual films were screened at hundreds of venues, including the ICA and the Tate Modern in London, The Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. His film “#11, Marey <-> Moire” was the first Dutch film ever to be shown at the Sundance Film Festival. From 2008 until 2014, he led the ArtScience Interfaculty at the Royal Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

Nduka Mntambo is is the former Head the Film and Television program at the Wits School of Arts (WSOA), and the current head of the master programme "Research in and Through Cinema" at the Film Academy. He is an image-maker working in the interstices of urban spatial practices, experimental filmmaking, and pedagogy. He has worked extensively as a theatre and film production designer, commissioned works for public broadcasters and holds a PhD in Film. The ‘Asymmetries’ installation that was part of his PhD research was awarded the Humanities and Social Sciences Awards for best Best Visual Art Works 2020. Nduka’s research interests deal with the question how artistic practice and research can re-invigorate the epistemic lenses by which we understand urban life in cities of the ‘global south’ in particular, and the poetics and politics of urbanity in general.

Eliane Esther Bots finished her BA at the University of the Arts Utrecht and graduated cum laude from the Master of Film programme at the Film Academy in Amsterdam. She is currently a lecturer in 'Moving Image' at the HKU in Utrecht. Her films, which develop through documentary-based research and encounters with others, have been screened at festivals such as IDFA, Locarno Film Festival, Berlinale, Cinema du Reel, New York Film Festival, Oberhausen, Go Short, Glasgow Short Film Festival, or Kassel Dokfest. Her latest film ‘In Flow of Words’ won several awards, including the Best Director award at the Locarno Film Festival, and was nominated for the European Film Awards.

Jyoti Mistry is a professor in Film at HDK-Valand Academy. She holds a PhD, and a Master in Cinema Studies awarded by the New York University, and an MFA in Comparative Literature from the University of the Witwatersrand. She is a filmmaker and a researcher exploring the medium both in her artistic practice and research endeavours. She has made critically acclaimed films in multiple genres and created installations, which draw from cinematic traditions while reconstructing the linear cinematic experience for the gallery and museum spaces. Her works have screened at numerous festivals including Berlinale, Toronto, Kurzfilmtage in Winterthur, IFFR, Stockholm International Film Festival, Durban International Film Festival, and Edinburgh Africa In Motion Festival.
