Idris Elhassan navigates the liminal spaces between worlds, drawing from experiences across six countries and his displacement journey to challenge conventional narratives. His artistic research practice excavates colonial structures that persist beneath the surface of contemporary society by creating spaces where lived experiences illuminate systemic patterns of power. Rather than complying with established discourse, Elhassan attempts to cultivate genuine dialogue—creating encounters where refugee experiences can emerge in their full complexity. Combining his work as an intercultural mediator and peer coach with an artistic research practice reflects this commitment to exchange rather than extraction. At the same time, his policy advocacy disrupts the notion of refugees as subjects of research rather than collaborators in knowledge creation. By interweaving technical policy expertise, artistic inquiry, and lived experience, Elhassan reimagines how refugee perspectives might transform research methodologies and policy frameworks if truly heard on their own terms.
