Lena Kuzmich (b. 1998, Vienna) is a visual artist working between moving image, bio-art and installation. With a background in photography, they investigate the image as a tool for world-building, probing how visual culture shapes our perception of reality and the narratives we construct about the world around us.

In their ongoing artistic research, Lena explores how our understanding of the world can be reconfigured through various modes of biological existence. Their work engages diverse artistic mediums as gateways to connect with more-than-human worlds, offering entry points for multi-species encounters. Through Ghostly Ecologies—a narrative framework centered on imaginaries of nature and nonhuman domains—Lena creates portals for noticing worlds within worlds, weaving alternative modes of biological being into their artistic practice.

Collage is central to their work, serving as a method of stitching together fragments—footage from subcultures, scientific archives, stock imagery, and internet ephemera—into new constellations. By layering and recontextualizing these materials alongside their own creations, they reveal the constructed nature of images and disrupt the hierarchies woven into them, opening space for speculative narratives to emerge.

As a co-founder of the collective Transformative Narratives, Lena facilitates audiovisual performances and interdisciplinary collaborations that center on sympoietic world-building and collective work. Blurring the boundaries between science and fiction, as well as the human and the more-than-human, their work invites viewers to perceive the world from oblique angles, and inhabit speculative worlds in the making.
