Sojeong Lee (South Korea, 1993) is an artist and filmmaker based in Seoul and Amsterdam. As a video artist, she collaborates across various artistic disciplines, including theatre, literature, performance, and sound arts. With a technical background in cinematography, editing, and colour grading, her practice challenges the hierarchical structures of filmmaking, exploring alternative storytelling methods that engage sensorial experiences through image and sound.
Using lens-based media, she uncovers hidden narratives and unseen subjectivities striving to move beyond a first-person perspective.
She holds a BFA and MFA from the School of Film, TV and Multimedia at the Korea National University of Arts. She has directed several short documentaries, as well as the feature documentary ‘Every Single Dot’ (2024), which premiered at the 29th Busan International Film Festival and the 50th Seoul Independent Film Festival.
In her ongoing artistic research, she delves into personal memory as a medium to explore intergenerational connectivity and female agency through animation, poetry, sound, 16mm analog film, video archives and performance. Through her work, Sojeong seeks to use cinema as a bridge for relationships and a means of engaging with ‘others’.
