Sabine Groenewegen (filmmaker, NL)
Sabine Groenewegen is an artist and filmmaker. Her debut feature Odyssey won the 2019 Doc Alliance Selection Award for best newcomer across nominations by 7 leading documentary festivals, and Best Experimental Feature at Istanbul Experimental. The film toured festivals including Doclisboa, FID Marseille, New Horizons Visual Front, and was programmed by art centres including Bozar and the Institute for Contemporary Arts: ICA London. Sabine has an MA in Artists’ Film & Moving Image from Goldsmiths University of London. Her work is propelled by extensive research developed through elaborate community engagement and assembled through elaborate editing and intricate sound design. She has received support from the Netherlands Film Fund, Flemish Audiovisual Fund, Danish Art Institute, British Arts Council, ARGOS, Light Cone. Recently Sabine edited Looking for Horses, the 2021 winner of the Visions du Réel Burning Lights Competition, and Sarajevo Film Festival Jury Prize for documentary. Sabine guest-teaches regularly at the MA Artistic Research in and Through Cinema in Amsterdam, for which she developed seminars including Writing through Editing and The Essayistic as Method with Stan Liguzinski.
