During this lecture Carlos Casas will present and discuss the research and development behind his project Cemetery. From myth to bioacoustics, from lost world literature to science fiction, from interspecies communication to syncretic mystical beliefs, the film is an epic journey through genres and influences, a film project for testing the limits of the cinematic.

His work celebrates the physiological power of the audiovisual realm in order to make us aware of our environment, other species, and ourselves. The work is meant as a gateway to an expanded knowledge - guided through cinematic and sonic languages - that merges the spatial setting of installations or live presentations. Casas questions the body and its connection to place, culture, myths, and the archetypal imaginary that shapes us. His projects generally involve a long research and audiovisual production process that includes cross-cultural dialogue, ethno-ethology interaction, world exploration, cross spiritual dialogue, and the search for mythohistorical archetypes that can become vessels to new forms of awakening or enlightenment.

Carlos Casas is a filmmaker and artist whose practice encompasses film, sound, and visual arts. His works have been presented in the Venice Biennale, Shanghai Biennale, Bangkok Biennale and Istanbul Biennial. His films have been screened and won awards in festivals including the Venice Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Buenos Aires International Film Festival, Mexico International Film Festival, CPH DOX Copenhagen, and FID Marseille. Retrospectives of his films have been presented in international festivals and cinematheques in Madrid, Mexico, and Brussels and his work has been exhibited in international art institutions and galleries including: the Tate Modern (London); Fondation Cartier, Palais de Tokyo, Centre Pompidou (Paris); NTU CCA (Singapore); Hangar Bicocca, La Triennale (Milan); CCCB (Barcelona);  Matadero,  Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid); MAAT (Lisbon); GAM (Turin); Bozar, and Kunsten Festival des Arts (Brussels).
