Pahriya Alifu was born in 1996 in Xinjiang, China. She is an independent filmmaker and visual artist who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Beijing Film Academy. Currently, she is pursuing her master’s at the Netherlands Film Academy. Her research evolved around the theme of "When familiarity becomes strange." 

When familiarity becomes strange, when the language becomes strange, when the loved ones become strange, when men become strange … Pahriya is interested in translating these alienated experiences into audio-visual works and using filmmaking as a healing method.  

Over the past years, she has worked on documentaries, music videos, visual art, and fiction, she also worked as stage director for music concerts. Cornell University and New Castle University have archived her works, and they have also been selected by GZDOC,BJIFF, and so on.
