Voor de Filmacademie volgde Gijs twee jaar de opleiding Film aan LUCA School of Arts in Brussel. In 2015 liep hij stage bij De Lodge bij de kleurcorrectie en als camera-assistent bij de Telefilm Kamp Holland (2015, Boris Paval Conen).
