Inclusive and diverse

It is of utmost importance to the Netherlands Film Academy that Dutch talent in the broadest sense of the word feels called and invited to learn the film trade. The Film Academy wants to play a leading role in this respect, precisely because telling meaningful stories is so central to our academy.

In January and March 2019, the Film Academy, in collaboration with the Internationale Filmschule Köln, organized a double congress with the theme Embracing diversity in European film schools. Under the flag of GEECT, the European Grouping of Film and Television Schools, it was examined how film schools relate to major social changes in Europe and the world.

In the fall of 2019, together with Learn! Academy (VU) and Expertisecentrum diversiteit ECHO concrete next steps were made in realising the diversity- and inclusion policy of the Netherlands Film Academy. Several courses were commenced, among which the projects een 'Wat is jouw verhaal?' and Filmlab in collaboration with Meervaart Studio.

How big is your world?

What is the current state of affairs with regards to diversity at the Netherlands Film Academy and in the subsequent cultural field, and which strategies can contribute to diversifying our student population? This is the central question in the research commissioned by the Film Academy by media company Woodpack. The results of this research can be found (in Dutch) below.
