Arnoud Holleman has a hybrid practice, ranging from visual arts to filmmaking to writing. He will talk about various (very) long term projects and focus on two specifically that have resulted in film. Along the way, Holleman will question the term artistic research. It may have become a household term, but when you look closer it covers a field of vague notions that is best defined by what it lacks: methodology.

He will first show two short (art)films: Museum (1998) and its remake Hommage (2015). The seventeen years inbetween reveal a history of appropriation- and copyright issues.

Second, he will talk about Vastgelegd (Captured), a documentary for KRO/NCRV in collaboration with filmmaker Batya Wolff. The film started ten years ago and is still in the making. It deals with the vast photo-archive in the Wolff family, where, up to this day, the presence of the camera is deeply connected with the trauma of the Holocaust. One of the aims of the film is to create an alternative narrative for the suppressive forces in the family dynamics – with the help of the camera.
