From storing to sharing - a manual for mapping the multimodal research infrastructure - Brigiet van den Berg, Bram Loogman

In the frame of this research project, the NFA Lectoraat collaborates with DAS Graduate School (of the Academy for Theatre and Dance) and the designers of the Netherlands Film Academy’s online audiovisual platform Research Atlas to re-evaluate the role of archives in educational institutions with a particular focus on the field of artistic research. Drawing from the method developed to survey the infrastructural needs of the Netherlands Film Academy community of researchers, students, alumni and collaborators, we are creating a manual conveying a bottom-up procedure for rethinking material conditions of conducting and publishing research in the educational context.

Tapping into a current trend of revising the role of the archive as a potential pedagogical tool, a publishing space, and a medium facilitating collaborative research practices, we want to offer other agents in the educational field tools to facilitate transformation in their own context.

The manual will combine a detailed step-by-step breakdown of the method with all the material aids necessary in the process of establishing user cases and investigating specific needs of any educational institution pertaining to its archive-based research infrastructure. It is being designed as a fully operational tool including instructions, adjustable templates, and formats that can be immediately enacted and translated into workshops, feedback sessions, and focus groups.
